About Pain
Pain can take control of your life, leaving you feeling depressed, anxious, frustrated, and angry. It can cause you to miss work or be incapable of working. It can make relating to family and friends difficult because you feel they "just don't understand." You may feel that your healthcare providers aren’t listening, don’t believe you, or don't care about the pain you're in. Some may have told you that "it's all in your head." You might even have begun to believe them.
I know that your pain is real. I also know that pain is not only a physical experience, but one that affects every aspect of an individual’s life. Counseling can help you better cope with pain and improve your quality of life. Studies have shown that people who feel they have some control over their pain tend to experience less pain, stress, depression, and anxiety. They also often cut down on medication and trips to the doctor. Learning ways to set goals and increase activities also leads to less distress and improved self esteem.
In addition to my professional experience, I bring my personal history to helping others cope with life with pain. I know that living with pain is not easy, but I also know that there are ways to still live a full life with its presence. I would be happy to speak with you about how this can be achieved.
