About Me

My interests in health and wellness go beyond my degrees, and I continue to learn through podcasts, books, and conferences. I am particularly fascinated by neuroplasticity and the idea that changing and redirecting our thoughts and behaviors can create neural pathways in the brain that are more health enhancing to our overall well-being.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications from Emerson College in 1992, where I also minored in psychology. The years following my graduation were spent working in higher education. In 2000, I decided to return to school and entered the Clinical Mental Health and Counseling program at Lesley University where I specialized in holistic studies. I graduated with my master’s degree in 2004 and became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts in 2006. In April 2009 I opened my private practice. At that time, I was also a clinician at a community mental health agency in Lowell, MA and subsequently served as the Clinical Therapist for the pain management center of a local hospital. I have since left both positions and work full time in private practice.
At first glance, my degrees may seem totally unrelated. However, I feel that my background in mass communications (i.e. media) is extremely helpful in working with clients. Identifying the messages that have helped to create the core beliefs we have about ourselves can be useful in getting through some of the blocks that prevent us from feeling healthy and enjoying life. This not only results from positive and negative internalized messages from those in our personal lives but also from those received through mass media and society in general.
